Quarterback Cris Reisert of Ohio Dominican University was named the College Fanz Offensive NAIA Player of the Year. Reisert, a senior from Cinncinatti, Ohio, owns 10 NAIA offensive records including “most touchdowns responsible for in a season” with 57. Reisert threw for 3,027 yards and 28 touchdowns this season.
Linebacker Owen Koeppen of Carroll College was named the College Fanz Defensive NAIA Player of the Year. Koeppen, a senior from Florence, Mont, garners the award for the second year in a row. He finishes 2008 with 114 total tackles, two interceptions, 13.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. The Saints finished 2008 as the NAIA National Runner-Up.
Head Coach Pat Ross of Lindenwood University was named the College Fanz NAIA Head Coach of the Year. The Lions advanced to the NAIA semifinals with a one point victory over Morningside College on the road before their season ended against Carroll College. In the NAIA Semifinal, Ross’ Lions battled back late in the fourth quarter to bring the game within one point before dropping the game 38-37. The 37 points allowed by Carroll College were the most a Saints defense had given up in a single game since 1999.
Defensive Coordinator Chuck Morrell of the University of Sioux Falls was named the College Fanz Assistant Coach of the Year. The Cougar defense shined all season long leading the NAIA in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense, pass defense, pass efficiency defense, opponents first downs, third down conversion as well as shutting out their opponents seven times. Morrell has been with the Cougars as a coach for 11 seasons along with playing for Sioux Falls from 1995-97.
Jeff Windmueller, sports editor of the Helena Independent Record, is this year’s College Fanz Football Media Person of the Year. Windmueller is the main Carroll College football beat writer and has covered the Saints for over three years. His game write-ups became weekly features on the VSN/College Fanz web site as well as the videos which were shot by the Helena IR sports staff.
The College Fanz Sports Network acquired the Victory Sports Network in November of 2008.
