2010 Victory Sports Network NAIA Football All-American Team

Grand Island, Neb. – December 30, 2010 – The Victory Sports Network has announced the 2010 NAIA Football All-American team as voted on by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) football coaches and the Victory Sports Network broadcast team.

This is the ninth annual edition of the NAIA Football All-American Team, which began in 2002 with Jason Dannelly and a committee of coaches. Each season the Victory Sports Network also gives five overall honors for the best offensive and defensive players of the year as well the head coach, assistant coach and media person/sports information director of the year.

“This year’s All-American voting was as tight as it has ever been,” said Jason Dannelly, owner and founder of the Victory Sports Network. “It just goes to show the type of talent there is in the NAIA and what a great job the coaches do of recognizing it.”

Jon Ryan, a senior wide receiver from the University of Sioux Falls, was named this year’s offensive
Player of the Year. Ryan capped off his final year at Sioux Falls with 1430 yards receiving and an NAIA single season record of 24 touchdowns as the Cougars finished the season as the NAIA National Runner-Up. Ryan also averaged 17.7 yards per reception and had 81 receptions on the season.

“Ryan is an amazing talent,” said Dannelly. “Each week he proved himself to defenses around the country and showed why he was a force at Sioux Falls.”

Thomas Dolan, a senior linebacker from Carroll College, was named this year’s Defensive Player of the Year. Dolan was a fixture for the Fighting Saints defense this year finishing with 79 total tackles while helping to lead Carroll to the NAIA National Championship. Dolan also finished the year with two interceptions, two forced fumbles and five pass deflections.

“Dolan is that old school field general,” said Dannelly. “His knowledge of the game and ability to move around the field made him the top draw defensively in the NAIA.”

Todd Hafner, head coach of William Penn University, was name this year’s NAIA Coach of the Year.
Hafner instructed the Statesmen to a 10-1 record, tying the school’s all-time mark for wins in a
season. Last year was also the third consecutive winning season for William Penn. The Statesmen
were 24-10 over that time, a vast improvement on the program’s 24-116 record from 1990 to the
start of Hafner’s tenure in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

“It is a truly remarkable thing that Coach Hafner has done at William Penn,” Dannelly stated. “He has built William Penn into a program that is competing at the highest level of the NAIA.”

Nick Howlett, assistant coach and offensive coordinator of Carroll College, was named this year’s Assistant Coach of the Year. Howlett completed his 13th year with the Fighting Saints. In that time
Howlett’s offense has produced a Frontier Conference Player of the year six times, including Gary
Wagner in 2010. This year Carroll College finished as the No. 3 Total Rushing Offense, the No. 4
Total Scoring Offense and the No. 12 Total Scoring Offense Per Game.

“Howlett has proven to be one of the most adaptable offensive coordinators in the country,” said
Dannelly. “A few years ago he ran an offense that spread teams out and threw the ball all over the
field. Now they have adapted into a bruising rush offense. He keeps the Saint’s offense on top of
their game year in and year out.”

Jay Stancil, Sports Information Director of Union College (Ky.), was named this year’s Media
Person/Sports Information Director of the Year.

“Whenever we needed something on Union or one of their opponents, Jay was there to provide us
with it,” said Dannelly. “The type of stuff his ‘department’ turns out is amazing. His game notes and recaps are something you would see from a program with a staff of 10 assistant SIDs, not a small NAIA Sports Information Department.”
