COLUMBUS, Ga. – [Bracket | Schedule | Watch] Key pinch hitters from Georgia Gwinnett secured a 2-0 victory over Grand View (Iowa) at South Commons Complex Monday afternoon. The game, which lasted a brisk 1 hour and 40 minutes, saw both teams locked in a scoreless battle until the decisive sixth inning.
GGC, boasting a strong season record of 48-9, managed to break the deadlock thanks to a clutch performance by right fielder Sophie Sisk. With runners on base, Sisk delivered a crucial single through the left side, driving in two runs as Casey Beaver and Enna Lackey crossed the plate. This single play proved to be the difference maker in an otherwise defensive showdown.
The pitching staff for the Grizzlies was exceptional, with Kailynn James starting the game and delivering four solid innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five batters. Annalise Woods (Jarvis), who earned the win, pitched the final three innings, conceding only one hit and striking out four, effectively shutting down Grand View’s offense.
GVU (42-16), struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. The team managed four hits but left several runners stranded, unable to convert their chances into runs. Madeline Waldorf, who took the loss, pitched five innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs while striking out three.
Georgia Gwinnett committed no errors, while Grand View had one. GGC moves on to play Southern Oregon tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. ET.
