No. 2 Oklahoma City Stars dominate Lions in Thursday’s doubleheader

LANGSTON, Okla. – Second ranked Oklahoma City Stars softball hit three home runs in the doubleheader outscoring Langston 25-1 on Thursday..

Oklahoma City 16 – Langston 0

Oklahoma City (27-2, 16-1 SAC) broke out for a nine run second inning capped off by a three-run homer from Emersen Heron, her fifth of the year.

Kaitlyn Jones launched her first home run of the season in the third bringing in three more runs for OCU.

Oklahoma City finished off the five-inning run rule by scoring two runs in the fourth before Baileigh Loux gave the Stars their 16th run of the game in the fifth. 

OCU senior Shelbey Cornelson (12-2) put together another stellar performance inside the circle with her fifth shutout of the year while allowing just two hits and striking out 10, the third time this season Cornelson has notched double digit strikeouts. 

Heron led the way with three hits to go along with three RBIs while Loux and Jones each tabbed two hits apiece.

Oklahoma City 9 – Langston 1

Oklahoma City (28-2, 17-1 SAC) wasted no time to get going in game two with four runs put up in the opening frame as Kamryn Garvie and Tara Hoehner knocked a pair of RBI singles before Amy Crabaugh wrapped up the inning with an RBI double to score Hoehner. 

OCU scored two in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth to complete the run rule victory. 

Crabaugh came up with her third home run of the year and her second in the last three games coming in the third inning before Garvie and Tiffany Paul produced RBI knocks to get up to the nine run lead. 

Emersen Heron got the ball to start game two inside the circle for the Stars continued to stay a perfect 12-0 on the season after giving up one run on five hits with a season-high seven strikeouts. 

Five Stars came up with multiple base hits which included Kindlayn Miller, Kamryn GarvieBaileigh LouxAmy Crabaugh and Mallory McCoy while Miller led the way with three runs scored while Garvie, Loux and Crabaugh had two RBIs each. 

With the win, Oklahoma City moves to 18-0 against Langston in a series that started back in 2019.

Oklahoma City and Langston will matchup for two more on Friday, Mar. 29 with the doubleheader beginning at noon.
