Share

Shreveport, LA – In the final home series of the 2024 season, the Pilots would celebrate Senior Day in fashion by defeating the Texas College Steers 23-2 and 20-0.  The two wins for the regular season champs move their record to 38-7 overall and 27-2 in the RRAC.

From the start the Pilots overwhelmed the Steers with superior pitching and hitting. The current strikeout king in the NAIA, Isaac Rohde was dominate again for the Pilots on the mound going 4.0 innings striking out seven and allowing no runs. LSUS hit five homeruns , had five doubles and one triple, while scattering 23 hits. It’s impossible to highlight just one player as several had career days at the plate. As a team LSUS would 23-39 at the plate for a whoping .589 batting average.

Game two wouldn’t be much different. Steers pitchers would continue to struggle while the LSUS batters would take full advantage of their opportunties. Draven Zeigler would have one of his best outtings this year striking out the first 10 batters of the game before finally giving up a hit in the fourth. LSUS would hit four more homeruns in game two, with Cooper Huspen hitting a grand slam in his first plate appearance of the day. This would also be Huspen’s first career homerun in the purple and gold. LSUS would add four more doubles and two triples, while banging 18 hits scoring 20 runs.

The Pilots and the Steers will return on Sunday to finish the series at 11 AM. Sunday will be the final regular season game for the Pilots as the orginally scheduled game with Louisiana Christian on Tuesday has been canceled. LSUS will go into the RRAC Tournament on Thursday as the top seed.
